South Dakota Air National Guard Security Forces Receive Additional Activation Notices
Sioux Falls, SD ( September 30, 2001 ) -- The United States military response to recent global threats has resulted in additional activation notices for members of the South Dakota Air National Guard. Members of the 114th Security Forces Squadron received word Saturday evening of their change in status.
The men and women of this squadron, with an authorized strength of 73 persons, are responsible for security of Air Force personnel, aircraft and other assigned resources. The guardmembers reported to Joe Foss Field, in Sioux Falls, and initiated their mobilization process at noon on Sunday with remaining actions to be completed on Monday.
The activation required minimal transition for many of the Security Forces who had already been serving in a similar active duty status following the September 11th terrorist attacks.
The squadron will remain in Sioux Falls at the present time with a continuation of their current responsibility for security of the Air National Guard base as well as the newly assigned duty of providing augmentation for security personnel at the commercial terminal. Future deployment actions associated with this activation remain unknown at this time.
