Names Released In McCook County Fatal Crash
What: Two-vehicle fatal crash
When: Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012, 1:53 p.m.
Where: Highway 38 and 431st Avenue, three miles south of Spencer, SD
Driver 1: Dorothy Nipp, 65, Omaha, NE, minor injuries
Passenger 1: Patrick Nipp, 79, Omaha, NE, minor injuries
Vehicle 1: 2011 Lexus GX6
Driver 2: Ward Ross, 43, Sioux Falls, SD, fatal
Vehicle 2: 1996 Chevrolet Corsica
SPENCER, S.D. – A Sioux Falls man died in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 38 and 431st Avenue south of Spencer on Wednesday, Oct. 3.
Ward Ross, 43, died when the 1996 Chevrolet Corsica he was driving collided with a 2011 Lexus driven by Dorothy Nipp, 65, of Omaha, Neb. Nipp and a passenger, Patrick Nipp, 79, of Omaha, received minor injuries.
Nipp was driving northbound on 431st Avenue. The Lexus stopped at the stop sign at the intersection with Highway 38 and then failed to yield to oncoming traffic. Ross was westbound on Highway 38. Ross and Nipp collided, and both vehicles rolled into the northwest ditch. Dorothy and Patrick Nipp were wearing seatbelts and received minor injuries. Ross was not wearing a seatbelt and received fatal injuries.
No further information is immediately available.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating. McCook County Sheriff's Office, McCook County Emergency Management and Salem Fire and Ambulance assisted.
