Surfacing Project to Begin on Southbound Interstate 29 Between Watertown and Brookings

BROOKINGS, S.D. – On Friday, June 27, 2025, an asphalt concrete surfacing project begins on the southbound lanes of Interstate 29 from exit 150 to exit 140 located between Watertown and Brookings. The approximately 12-mile project will also include milling and asphalt concrete resurfacing of on- and off-ramps, guardrail, pipe work, ramp detours, as well as acceleration and deceleration lane modifications.

During the surfacing project, southbound traffic will be diverted to the northbound lanes of I-29 to allow for a continuous two-way traffic configuration. This traffic configuration will remain in place until the project is complete.

The primary contractor for the $9.8 million project is Duininck Inc., of Watertown, SD. The overall project completion date is Friday, Oct. 17, 2025.
