Statement on the Fire at the South Dakota State Fair Beef Complex 


Huron, S.D. - At approximately midnight this morning, October 31, the South Dakota State Fair Beef Complex caught fire and sustained substantial damage. No person or animal was injured in the fire, and the buildings in close proximity were evacuated. The Huron, Cavour, and Wolsey Fire Departments responded to the situation. The State Fire Marshal, the Huron Fire Department, and the Department of Criminal Investigation will be conducting a joint investigation into the cause of the fire. At this time, we would like to say thank you to all first responders and firefighters on scene last night as their efforts to contain the fire were exceptional. The South Dakota Barrel Racing Association Finals scheduled to happen on the fairgrounds today, October 31, has been cancelled.
