SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – An Iowa woman suffered life-threatening injuries in a one-vehicle crash on Interstate 29 about 11 miles south of Sioux Falls on Saturday, July 28.
Tiffany Moore, 26, of Sioux City, was driving a 2001 Ford Escape northbound when she began to change lanes to pass a vehicle ahead of her. She had moved partway into the passing lane when she saw a vehicle beside her. She moved her vehicle sharply to the right to avoid a collision. The vehicle left the roadway and rolled down an embankment.
A 2-year-old in the back seat was not properly secured in a child safety seat and was ejected. Initial investigation indicates the child may have unbuckled the restraints while the vehicle was on the roadway. The child was taken to a Sioux Falls hospital with serious, non-life threatening injuries.
Moore was wearing a seatbelt. She suffered life-threatening injuries and was air-lifted to a Sioux Falls hospital. Three other passengers were properly restrained.
No further details are immediately available.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating. Lincoln and the Division of Criminal Investigation assisted.
