Tuesday, January 16, Faith, 7 p.m. (MST) - DENR staff will be among speakers presenting information during a "Deep Well Forum" hosted by the Tri-County Conservation District at the American Legion in Faith. The forum will focus on domestic and livestock water issues and information. Presentations will address aquifer resources, water rights information, well drilling techniques and costs, engineering considerations, potential funding sources, and personal experiences of local landowners. Tuesday, January 16, Yankton, 7 p.m. (CST) – The South Dakota Department of Transportation, in conjunction with the Building Yankton’s Bridge Committee and City of Yankton, will hold a public meeting to provide a status update and gather public input on the MeridianBridge’s conversion for pedestrian/bicycle use. Wednesday-Thursday, January 17-18, Pierre – The South Dakota Office of Tourism will host the annual Governor’s Conference on Tourism at the Ramkota RiverCentre. The agenda includes expert lead sessions on the topics of media training, travel marketing trends, e-commerce trends and team building. Other sessions will address women’s traveling trends, idea generation and appreciating diversity in the workplace. Wednesday-Thursday, January 17-18, Pierre, 10 a.m. (CST) – DENR’s Board of Minerals and Environment will meet at the MatthewTrainingCenter, 523 East Capitol Avenue. The board agenda includes a public hearing on Powertech (USA)'s uranium exploration permit application, a public hearing to consider adoption of in-situ leach mining rules, an update on impacts EPA’s new particulate matter standards have in South Dakota, and an application from Luff Exploration Company, Denver, Colorado, for oil well drilling activities in Harding County. Wednesday-Sunday, January 17-21, Des Moines, Iowa – Buddy Seiner, Outdoor Media and PR Representative for the Office of Tourism, will attend Pheasant Fest in Des Moines, Iowa. Pheasant Fest is a trade show open to the public that focuses on wildlife conservation, upland game bird hunting, dog training and wildlife habitat establishment and restoration. Buddy will meet with Pheasants Forever officials to further promote South Dakota as a pheasant hunting destination. Thursday, January 18, Huron, 8:30 a.m. (CST) – DENR staff will be among speakers during environmental and manure management training for livestock producers at the Crossroads Convention Center, 100th Fourth Street SW. The training provides producers required to obtain a state water pollution control permit for livestock operations information on proper manure management and how to comply with the permit. Project 8 reminds all parents and other adults responsible for children traveling in motor vehicles -- if the kids are less than 4’9” tall; they need to be in a booster seat.
