Thursday, Aug. 29 we are celebrating 25 years of partnership with Value Added Ag Day, where attendees can experience the benefits of value-added agriculture in South Dakota. The Value Added Ag Development Center helps farmers, ranchers, and specialty crop producers create and expand their agriculture businesses. Stop by the Day Sponsor Tent to visit with producers about topics including agritourism, beekeeping, USDA Resources, specialty crops, and more. Be sure to stick around for the annual ice cream social at 3 p.m.

Friday, Aug. 30 is Olympic Motors Day. Make sure to stop by Olympic Motors (formerly Prostrollo Motors) on East Highway 14 in Huron prior to the fair to pick up a coupon for $2 off daily gate admission at the State Fair. At the fair, stop by the Olympic Motors Building to learn about year-end discounts and sign up for a chance to win the “Best Seats in the House” at the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday shows in the Grandstand. In addition, there will be special door prize drawings from Olympic Motors during the fair, and free ice water will be available all day.

Saturday, Aug. 31 is South Dakota Farmers Union Day. South Dakota Farmers Union hosts events throughout the day celebrating the family farmers, ranchers, and rural communities from across the state. Highlighting the day of activities is the annual Farmer’s Share Luncheon (limited number of meals available) located in the tent near the Freedom stage from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. In comparison to the retail price of the meal, $15, attendees will pay just $0.48 for a meal showcasing the farmer’s share on retail food dollars.

Events at the Freedom Stage kick off at 1 p.m. with the Public Utilities Commission Candidates hosted by SD Farmers Union, followed by the Farm Safety FFA Quiz Bowl Championship. The Farm Safety Quiz Bowl is designed as a fun way to teach high school students about safety on the farm or ranch. Farmers Union will also display their interactive Farm Safety Trailer on Third Street in front of the Dakotaland Museum. The trailer gives visitors the opportunity to learn farm about safety with power take offs, grain bins, down power lines, and ATV simulator demonstrations at 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. each day.

Sunday, Sept. 1 is DPS Day sponsored by the South Dakota’s Department of Public Safety (DPS). DPS staff members will be located at the Day Sponsor Tent site from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be free bottles of water, a chance to renew your driver’s license (remember to bring two documents proving your address), and Tommy the Turtle discussions and photo opportunities throughout the day.
