              Beadle County Fatal Crash

What: Two-vehicle fatal crash

When: Friday, July 12, 2013, 1:17 p.m.

Where: US Highway 14, one mile east of Huron, SD

Driver 1: Alan Dean Decker, 62. Huron, SD, fatal

Vehicle 1: 2004 Harley Davidson motorcycle

Driver 2: Ardes Lynch Freeman, 42, Huron, SD, no injuries

Vehicle 2: 1999 Pontiac Grand Am

HURON, S.D. – A Huron man died on Thursday, August 1, of injuries received in a two-vehicle crash on July 12 on U.S. Highway 14 east of Huron.

Alan Dean Decker, 62, was westbound on Highway 14 on a 2004 Harley Davidson motorcycle. Ardes Lynch Freeman, 42, Huron, was northbound on Custer Avenue driving a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am. She failed to yield at the intersection with Highway 14, and her car was struck by Decker’s motorcycle.

Decker, who was not wearing a helmet, received serious injuries and was taken to a Huron hospital. He was transferred to a Sioux Falls hospital, where he died.

Freeman was not wearing a seatbelt. She was uninjured and was cited for failure to yield and a seatbelt violation.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol investigated. Huron Police Department, Huron Ambulance and Beadle County Sheriff’s Office assisted.
