Construction on Minnesota Avenue in Sioux Falls to Begin
SIOUX FALLS -- The South Dakota Department of Transportation will begin construction on Minnesota Avenue in Sioux Falls from 33rd Street to the Big Sioux River on Monday, May 6.
The project will include replacing the existing concrete pavement and repairing damaged curb and gutter, sidewalks, and drainage structures. The City of Sioux Falls will also be installing new water main and sanitary sewer in some locations on the project.
Beginning Monday traffic will be maintained head-to-head in the southbound lanes while water main and concrete pavement work is completed. Traffic will be head-to-head from the Big Sioux River to just south of 37th Street for approximately three to four weeks, at which time the closure will be extended through 33rd Street.
Due to safety concerns, left-hand turns will be restricted while head-to-head traffic is maintained. Traffic will be allowed to turn left at 41st Street. Left turns at 33rd Street and 37th Street will be restricted at times during construction.
With the high volume of traffic on Minnesota Avenue major delays are anticipated. Motorists are strongly encouraged to use alternate routes whenever possible.
The anticipated completion date for the project is mid-October. T&R Contracting in Sioux Falls is the prime contractor on the project.
