               Lawrence County Fatal Crash

What: Single motorcycle fatal crash

Where: Vanocker Canyon Road, two miles north of Nemo, SD

When: Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012, 5:10 p.m.

Driver: Steven R. Rowin, 61, Madison, WI, life-threatening injuries

Passenger: Marcia Lynn Rowin, 61, Madison, WI, fatal

Vehicle 1: 2005 Harley Davidson Road King

NEMO, S.D. – A Wisconsin woman died and her husband received life-threatening injuries in a motorcycle crash on Vanocker Canyon Road about two miles north of Nemo on Wednesday, Aug. 1.

Marcia Lynn Rowin, 61, was a passenger on a 2005 Harley Davidson Road King motorcycle driven by Steven R. Rowin, 61. Both were from Madison, Wis. They were traveling south when two deer crossed the roadway. Steven Rowin lost control, and the motorcycle skidded into the west ditch. Neither rider was wearing a helmet. They were taken to a Sturgis hospital and then transferred to a Rapid City hospital, where Marcia Rowin died of her injuries.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, Nemo First Responders and Deadwood-Lead and Sturgis Ambulance assisted.
