Use of Rozol Prairie Dog Bait Approved in SD
Pierre, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Agriculture (SDDA) has approved Rozol® prairie dog bait for use in the state.
South Dakota currently has several zinc phosphide products registered for prairie dog control. Rozol, an anti-coagulant rodenticide containing the active ingredient Chlorophacinone, offers agricultural producers another control option.
Rozol is a restricted-use product that may only be sold to and used by certified applicators. It can only be applied between October 1 and March 15 or spring green-up, whichever occurs later. The bait must be placed by hand at least 6 inches down each burrow and applicators must return to bury the prairie dog carcasses and recover any bait on the soil surface.
Rozol cannot be used in prairie dog towns within the Black-Footed Ferret’s range without first contacting the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service.
The SDDA will conduct compliance monitoring of Rozol and re-evaluate its registration at the conclusion of the use period.
