Latest Updates on Tornado Damage
PIERRE, S.D. – Here are the latest confirmed updates regarding the response to the Sunday tornado that damaged Delmont and the surrounding area.
*** Structure Damage – There are an estimated 84 total structures impacted. That includes 78 in Delmont, three in rural Douglas County and three in rural Charles Mix County.
*** Injuries – nine in Delmont. Eight have been released and one remains hospitalized.
*** Electrical power has been restored to 75 percent of Delmont. Power has not yet been restored to the areas where there is the most damage.
*** There is water service in Delmont with the water tower being repaired and now full. Lines are being flushed. Water samples will be tested. A boil order is in place until at least Thursday.
*** Sanitary Sewer Service – no problems reported.
*** South Dakota National Guard members, as of Wednesday, have removed 81 loads of downed trees and tree branches from Delmont.
*** The South Dakota Highway Patrol continues to provide security for Delmont. Only residents are being allowed into the community.
*** A relief fund has been established. Cash donations designated to the Delmont Disaster Relief Fund can be dropped off at First State Bank locations in Delmont, Tripp, Armour and Geddes. Donations can also be mailed to First State Bank, P.O. Box 68, Delmont, SD 57330.
*** At this time, donations of items are not being accepted. More information about item donations and the need for volunteers will be released later.
