Saturday-Monday, July 16-18, Des Moines, Iowa – Gov. Mike Rounds will attend the National Governors Association (NGA) Annual Meeting. More information on the annual meeting is available at www.nga.org.
Saturday, July 16, Rapid City, 9 a.m. (MDT) – STEP OUTSIDE© event will offer hands-on instruction for newcomers in shooting skills, hunting, archery and fishing. The approach is to make these family-based activities and events something parents and children can share together. Registration may be limited, so participants are encouraged to call now for registration details and get signed up. The program runs from 9 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. with registration at: Black Hills Archery, 394-9663; Dakota Angler and Outfitter, 341-2450; and Jack First Inc., 343-8481.
Sunday-Saturday July 17-23, Court Services, Parole Agents and Juvenile Corrections Agents Week - Gov. Mike Rounds and Chief Justice David Gilbertson have issued a proclamation in honor of those individuals who work with people on probation, parole and juvenile aftercare in South Dakota. Tuesday, July 19, Huron, 8:30 a.m. (CDT) - DENR staff will be among speakers for environmental and manure management training for livestock producers at the Crossroads Hotel and Convention Center, 100th Fourth Street SW. The training provides producers required to obtain a state water pollution control permit for livestock operations information on proper manure management and how to comply with the permit. Tuesday, July 19, Sioux Falls, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (CDT) – The South Dakota Department of Transportation will conduct a traffic operations workshop at the Holiday Inn City Centre. The SDDOT plans to gather input from the media, law enforcement and emergency services personnel about pressing needs within the traffic operations area and identify possible solutions. Tuesday, July 19, Rapid City, 8:30 a.m. (MDT) –DENR Geological Survey Program staff will participate in leading a meeting of the Black Hills Digital Mapping Association. The meeting will be at the Rapid City School/Administration Building at 300 6th Street in Rapid City. The agenda includes presentations from the new South Dakota GIS Coordinator, the U.S. Geological Survey National Geospatial Programs Office, ESRI Inc., the U.S. Natural Resources Conservation Service, and private consultants. There will also be a vendor display and poster session, as well as a discussion forum focused on the current and future status of the Black Hills Digital Mapping Association. Tuesday, July 19, Pierre, 1 p.m. (CDT) – The Department of Human Services will hold a public hearing to adopt rules relating to the Cochlear Implant Program. These rules will establish requirements for the program regarding: definition of terms, covered services, eligibility criteria, application process, coverage limits, billing procedures, recovery of over payment, and appeal process. Wednesday, July 20, Canistota, 3:30 p.m. (CDT) - Gov. Mike Rounds and Cabinet will visit Canistota for Capital for a Day. The public is invited to join the activities starting at 3:30 p.m. (CDT) at the Canistota School. The day’s schedule of events is as follows:
- 1 – 3 p.m.: Department meetings and tours, Canistota community
- 3:30 – 5:30 p.m.: Capital for a Day booths, Canistota School – Gymnasium
Governor Rounds & Cabinet are available to the public.
- 4 - 4:30 p.m.: First Lady’s Reach Out and Read, Canistota School – Library
One of First Lady Jean Rounds’ initiatives is to share the joys of reading with children starting at a young age. Children are invited to join her for story time at the library.
- 5:30 - 6:30 p.m.: Community Dinner, Canistota School – Gymnasium
The community is invited to eat with all Capital for a Day participants. The city is sponsoring the free meal and distributing advance tickets.
- 6:30 p.m.: Governor Mike Rounds, Canistota School – Gymnasium
The governor will speak briefly, and then ask for questions and advice from the community.

Thursday, July 21, Sioux Falls, 10 a.m. (CDT) – Lt. Gov. Dennis Daugaard will deliver opening remarks at the Second Annual South Dakota Veterans Summit. The Summit will bring together all major veteran and military service organizations in South Dakota with a goal of combining efforts of each organization on priority issues to ensure they are addressed at the highest level of state and federal government. The Summit will be held at the Sheraton Sioux Falls-Meeting Rooms 8-10 in the Sioux Falls Convention Center.
