South Dakota Named a Top 10 Pro-Business State
Pollina Praises South Dakota’s Low Tax Environment
PIERRE, S.D. – South Dakota has been named to the list of "America's Top Ten Pro-Business States" in "Keeping Jobs In America: Pollina Corporate Top 10 Pro-Business States 2007," a comparative evaluation of the job creation and retention efforts of all 50 state governments and the Federal Government. The Pollina Report and its list of Top Ten Pro-Business states was unveiled before 400 economic development executives attending this week's International Economic Development Council (IEDC) Federal Forum in Arlington (VA). South Dakota ranked number seven.
"South Dakota is thrilled to be recognized by Pollina Corporate Real Estate as being one of the best pro-business states in the country,” said Richard Benda, secretary of the Department of Tourism and State Development. “Our Governor and state work hard to be receptive to business needs, and we are committed to retaining and improving upon our business friendly status."
"South Dakota provides a comprehensive business climate that is very appealing, featuring no corporate income tax, no individual income tax, no inventory tax, and right-to-work status," Dr. Pollina, president of Chicago-based Pollina Corporate Real Estate, said. "The state also ranks in the Top 10 in our report for Worker's Compensation Rate, and ranks highly for Employment Index, Infrastructure Index and Human Resources. South Dakota remains one of the most attractive states from a low tax perspective."
The Pollina study evaluates and ranks states based on 28 factors including taxes, human resources, right-to-work legislation, energy costs, infrastructure spending, workers compensation legislation and jobs lost or gained. The evaluation also considers state government-controlled factors based on incentive programs and state economic development departments.
Keeping Jobs In America: Pollina Corporate Top 10 Pro-Business States is published annually by Chicago-headquartered Pollina Corporate Real Estate, one of the nation's leaders in providing site selection and corporate relocation services. The Pollina Corporate study examines 28 factors relative to states' efforts to be pro-business, and is the most comprehensive and impartial examination of states to date. The study is limited to factors over which state government has control. A summary of the Pollina Report may be found at www.pollina.com, and the full report may be ordered by phone, 1+847.685.9000.
