Sunday, November 5, Los Angeles, CA — Wanda Romkema of the Office of Tourism will aid in hosting a reception at the American Film Institute Festival. The reception is hosted by “Film the West,” which is a collaboration between the film offices of South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana and Idaho. The reception is an opportunity for the South Dakota Film Office to network with film industry directors and producers from across the country. Wednesday, November 8, Watertown, 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. (CST) - The Dept. of Labor’s NortheastAreaCareerCenter will hold a 4-hour Job Hunting Tips Workshop in the CareerCenter conference room, located at 2001 9th Avenue SW, Suite 200. The workshop will cover the basics of: goal setting and assessing skills; how to and where to look for work; filling out applications; resume development; interviewing techniques; and job retention/employee loyalty. Wednesday, November 8, Pierre, 10 a.m. (CST) - The Nonpoint Source Task Force will consider seven 319 Nonpoint Source grant fund requests when the task force meets at the Matthew Training Center in the Joe Foss Building, 523 East Capitol Avenue. Task force decisions become recommendations for funding to the state Board of Water and Natural Resources. The seven funding requests include ongoing projects for a nonpoint source information and education project sponsored by the South Dakota Discovery Center and Aquarium, South Dakota grassland management and planning project sponsored by the SD Grassland Coalition, Firesteel Creek/Lake Mitchell watershed project sponsored by the Davison Conservation District, Lake Poinsett watershed implementation project sponsored by the Hamlin Conservation District, and a Lewis and Clark watershed implementation project sponsored by the Randall RC&D. Other funding requests include a lower Cheyenne River total maximum daily load assessment project sponsored by the West River Water Development District and a NortheastGlacialLakes watershed improvement and projection project sponsored by the Day Conservation District. Friday, November 10, Belle Fourche, 2 p.m. (MST) - Veterans Day Ceremony and Purple Heart Presentation - Maj. Gen. Michael A. Gorman, adjutant general, will speak during a Veterans Day Ceremony at the Belle FourcheMiddle School. During the ceremony, the adjutant general will present the Purple Heart Medal to James E. Steiner who earned the medal in Vietnam on May 13, 1971. The Purple Heart is awarded to members of the U.S. armed forces who are wounded by an instrument of war in the hands of the enemy and posthumously to the next of kin in the name of those who are killed in action or die of wounds received in action. Saturday, November 11, Rapid City, 11 a.m. (MST) - Veterans Day Parade - Maj. Gen. Michael A. Gorman, adjutant general, will serve as the Grand Marshal for the VFW Post 1273 sponsored Veterans Day Parade. The parade will start at the VFW Post 1273, 420 Main Street, and then travel west to 7th street, south to St. Joseph Street, east to 3rd Street, north to Main Street and end at the VFW. The adjutant general and Rapid City Mayor Jim Shaw will then speak at a luncheon that will be held immediately after the parade at the VFW Post 1273 to honor all who served.
