Lane Closure Scheduled for Minnesota Avenue at Interstate 229 in Sioux Falls

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, the northbound outside lane of Minnesota Avenue will be closed between the Interstate 229 northbound on-ramp and the I-229 southbound off-ramp. The northbound outside lane of Minnesota Avenue is scheduled to be reopened to traffic by 4:30 p.m. the same day. Weather dependent, this closure will also be utilized on Thursday, July 17 and Friday, July 18, 2025, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

The lane closure will allow crews to install a temporary large block retaining wall. This closure is part of a larger overall project that will reconstruct I-229 exit 4 (Cliff Avenue) and includes, lighting, signals, mainline Interstate work, two structure replacements, and median crossovers. Motorists are reminded to use caution and reduce their speed while workers and equipment are present.

The prime contractor on this $48 million project is T&R Contracting, Inc. of Sioux Falls, SD. The overall completion date is June 2027.
