Gov. Rhoden Signs REINS Act
PIERRE, S.D. – Today, Governor Larry Rhoden signed the REINS Act, SB 133, which provides additional legislative oversight of state agency rulemaking. Governor Rhoden signed this bill in a signing ceremony, and you can find that photo here.
“South Dakota is Open for Opportunity, and we are the 2nd least-regulated state in the nation. This bill will implement commonsense measures to keep us that way,” said Governor Larry Rhoden. “The REINS Act will improve transparency and accountability in state agency decision making. Regulations should be as limited and targeted as they can be, and this bill will help us achieve that.”
Governor Rhoden also signed the following seven bills:
- SB 36 authorizes certain utilities to establish wildfire mitigation plans and associated liability limitations for wildfire damages;
- SB 228 modifies provisions for a tax increment financing district;
- SB 240 makes an appropriation for county rural access infrastructure and declares an emergency;
- HB 1045 revises certain provisions related to child support;
- HB 1102 reschedules the date for filing certain annual reports;
- HB 1180 ensures the validity of non-compete agreements in the context of jointly owned business entities; and
- HB 1265 authorizes the salvage of certain bird eggs.
Governor Rhoden has signed 161 bills into law and vetoed one this legislative session.
