South Dakota Lottery to Launch Second Chance Drawing Program
Pierre, S.D. – South Dakota instant ticket players who don’t win big when first scratching off their tickets may be luckier the second time around with a new second chance drawing program being implemented by the South Dakota Lottery.
Play It Again, which launches April 23, 2014, gives Lottery Players Club members the opportunity to submit certain non-winning tickets online for second chance drawings to win cash and prizes. The drawings will be offered for specific scratch ticket games or groups of games; the first eligible game is $10K Run, a $2 scratch ticket that will be available in lottery retailers beginning April 23.
Lottery executive director Norm Lingle says players had long been asking about second chance opportunities and the Lottery is excited to be providing them through the Play It Again program.
“Many state lotteries have similar programs through their Players Clubs and have found them to be very successful for both the lottery and its patrons. Not only do they extend the life of the game but it’s an added value feature for the player, too. The chance for a winning experience doesn’t have to end just because the ticket is a non-winner initially,” Lingle said.
To participate in Play It Again, an individual must be a current Players Club member or join the free club by registering online at http://lottery.sd.gov/players/login/. In addition to providing basic personal information, members must also create a unique password to access the Players Club website. Once on the site, they click on Play It Again to enter numerical information from their non-winning scratch tickets to gain entry into the second chance drawing. The prizes will vary from drawing to drawing; for the initial $10K Run drawing, the top prize is $10,000. Players may enter up to 40 eligible tickets in a 24-hour period. Once the ticket information has been entered into the system, the player is not required to keep the ticket to claim the prize if randomly chosen as the drawing winner.
The grand prize winner for the first Play It Again second chance drawing will be drawn on Dec. 18, 2014. Drawings for other prizes are expected throughout the promotion period. Information about the program and subsequent drawings will be posted at http://lottery.sd.gov/.
