South Dakota Brand Board Reminds Brand Owners of Renewal Deadline

PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota Brand Board reminds brand owners the deadline for brand renewals is Thursday, May 1, 2025. Brand registrations must be renewed every five years during years that end in zero or five. Renewals may be completed online at brands.sd.gov or by mailing payment to the Brand Office.

Following the 2025 Legislative Session, the Brand Board members are as follows:

• Scott Vance, Board President – Faith, South Dakota;
• Lyle Spring, Board Vice President – Union Center, South Dakota;
• Haven Stuck, Board Member – Rapid City, South Dakota;
• Jesse “Jake” Longbrake, Board Member – Dupree, South Dakota; and
• Jarrod Johnson, Board Member – Garretson, South Dakota.

The Brand Board was created in 1937 and administers the Brand Registration program on over 28,000 brands statewide. The Brand Board also administers the Livestock Ownership Inspection program within the livestock ownership inspection area created by the legislature in 1943 and inspects 1.5 million head, on average, of livestock annually.
