What: Fatal Vehicle Crash
When: May 30, 2009 at approximately 3:10 PM
Where: 2.9 miles east of Box ElderSD on 225th Street in PenningtonCounty
Who: Two sixteen year old females, names being with held, charges pending.
Vehicle(s): 1993 Ford Thunderbird
Alcohol involved: No
Investigation status: Active
Description:
A 1993 Ford Thunderbird, occupied by two 16-year-old females, was westbound on 225th Street. The vehicle was about 2.9 miles east of Box Elder. The vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control. The vehicle entered the ditch and rolled. The passenger was ejected and suffered fatal injuries. The driver was seriously injured and transported to the hospital in Rapid City. Excessive speed appears to be a factor in this crash. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor. Neither teenager was wearing a seatbelt.
