Black Hills Machine and Manufacturing Opens Doors in Spearfish

PIERRE, S.D. – Black Hills Machine and Manufacturing is open for business. The California-based company, Miller Machine, Inc., expanded its California-based company to Spearfish, S.D. The company celebrated the opening on Thursday, Feb. 1, with a ribbon cutting at its facility located at 3217 W. Fairground Loop.

Black Hills Machine and Manufacturing will provide precision services within the areas of computerized numerical control milling and turning. In addition to providing custom machining services, the company specializes in manufacturing various components for the fly fishing, construction, medical, aerospace and semi-conductor industries.

“I’m pleased to welcome Black Hills Machine and Manufacturing to South Dakota,” said Gov. Mike Rounds. “This company will utilize the skilled machinists being trained at Black HillsStateUniversity and Western Dakota Technical Institute, making them a perfect fit for the region. Their success marks progress on the state’s 2010 Initiative goal of increasing our gross state product and builds on the region’s existing manufacturing base.”

Black Hills Machine and Manufacturing utilized $201,330 from the state’s Revolving Economic Development & Initiative (REDI) Fund for new computerized numerical control equipment (CNC). CNC machines represent a high tech approach to manufacturing that uses a computer controller to operate the machine.

“We are excited at the potential for growth in Spearfish and have appreciated the warm welcome we have already received,” said Jeff Dickinson CFO and Managing Member of Black Hills Machine and Manufacturing, LLC.

“We are pleased that Black Hills Machine & Manufacturing chose to locate here in Spearfish. Its expertise within the areas of manufacturing and CNC machining will complement our already growing manufacturing sector,” stated Larry Veitz, President of Spearfish Economic Development Corporation. “We appreciate the assistance provided by the city of Spearfish and the Governor’s Office of Economic Development in making this project become a reality,” added Veitz.
