On 08/09/24 at 11:54 a.m., a 2019 Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling southbound on US Highway 385 near mile marker 88. A 1975 Honda GL1000 was traveling southbound behind the Harley Davidson motorcycle and a group of others. The driver of the Honda failed to see the Harley Davidson slowing down to turn and began passing on the left. The Honda motorcycle struck the Harley Davidson motorcycle as it began to turn left. The Honda overturned and the driver separated from the motorcycle. The driver of the Honda was wearing a helmet and received serious non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Harley Davidson was wearing a helmet, was uninjured and able to drive his motorcycle from the scene.

 

On 08/09/24 at 6:35 p.m., a 2017 Harley Davidson Street Glide motorcycle was traveling southbound on US Highway 385. A 2009 Harley Davidson FLHRC was traveling northbound on US 385. The 2009 Harley Davidson motorcycle crossed the centerline into the southbound lane, in front of the 2017 Harley Davidson Street Glide. The northbound 2009 Harley Davidson motorcycle sideswiped the southbound 2017 Harley Davidson Street Glide as they traveled past. The driver of the 2017 Harley Davidson Street Glide was able to maintain control of his motorcycle and stop. A passenger on the motorcycle received serious non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the 2009 Harley Davidson motorcycle fled the scene but was located uninjured a short time later, and charges are pending against the driver. All persons involved were not wearing helmets.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating these crashes. All information released so far is only preliminary.
