Saturday, July 28, Sioux Falls, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sanford Research Center, 2301 East 60th Street –DENR Geological Survey Program staff will participate at Sanford’s It’s All About Science Festival to celebrate and explore science, technology, engineering and mathematics. At a booth in the Girl’s Zone, staff will host an applied-geology, hands-on activity called “Minerals & Makeup – What’s in Your Beauty Care Products?” The presentation will include rocks and minerals alongside products they are used in – for example pumice (in foot scrub), calcite (in natural toothpaste), and alum salt (in natural deodorant). Also there will be a table where participants can make their own powdered blush from powdered talc, iron-oxide, and muscovite for glitter. For more information, contact Sarah Chadima at 605-677-5227.
Saturday-Sunday, July 28-29, Huron – The 2012 South Dakota Summer Spotlight will be held at the South Dakota State Fairgrounds. Junior Point Livestock Shows and State 4-H Livestock Judging Contests will take place at this time. For more information, call 605-773-8120.

Tuesday, July 31-Wednesday, Aug. 30 – The Department of Labor and Regulation will be hosting a Job Search Assistance Program on the following dates. The JSAP is a workshop for people recovering from job loss or enhancing their job search skills. Trained instructors speak on modern-day techniques used to successfully find employment. Topics covered are: resume and cover letter writing, interviewing etiquette, networking effectively, using social media and much more.

Hill City residents also are encouraged to attend the mountain pine beetle roundtable meeting at the Slate Creek Grille from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
