Resurfacing Work Started on Highway 34 West of Union Center

UNION CENTER, SD - - Reconstruction work on Highway 34 through Union Center and Enning started late last week, according to the Department of Transportation.

A 20-mile section of Highway 34, beginning four miles west of Union Center and extending 20 miles to the east, is being reconstructed. The first phase of work involves removing the old asphalt surface of the highway.

The asphalt resurfacing work is expected to begin on May 28. During this phase of construction, traffic will be flagged and guided through the project with a pilot car. Travel through the work zone may be slow at times. Motorists may want to consider alternate routes.

The prime contractor, Border States Paving, Inc., is expected to have the project completed by July 12.
