SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – A rollover crash that seriously injured a Brandon, S.D., woman and a multiple-vehicle collision occurred on Interstate 229 in Sioux Falls on Tuesday, Sept. 30.

Carla Eve Lustfield, 45, of Brandon, was driving a 2008 Dodge R35 pickup truck south on Interstate 229 near Rice Street, in Sioux Falls. She lost control of the vehicle which caused her to enter the median and the pickup truck rolled. She was trapped in the vehicle until emergency responders freed her. She sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries in the crash.

After the crash occurred in the median, northbound traffic on Interstate 229 began to slow at the crash scene area and a rear end collision occurred. Judith Ann Nelson, 57, of Hartford, S.D., driving a 2003 Buick LeSabre, Kimberly Ann Bakker, 20, of Sioux Falls, driving a 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue and Katherine Howard, 53, of Sioux Falls, driving a 2013 Dodge Caravan were rear-ended by a 2001 International semi-truck driven by Gordon Neal Poppen, 59 of Sioux Falls. Poppen attempted to slow his semi-truck and trailer before a collision occurred, but failed. The braking caused his trailer to jack-knife and come to rest against the concrete bridge rail located over Rice Street.

Bakker received minor injuries in the crash. All involved in both crashes were wearing seatbelts.
