Train versus Vehicle Crash

When:  Friday, August 28, 2009 0743 hours

Where: 397th Avenue ½ mile north of US 12 (2 miles east of Bath)

Driver #1:  Darla Beaman, age 37, from Bath, SD (life-threatening injuries)

Passenger:  Shelby P. Linder, age 15, from Aberdeen, SD (fatality)

Vehicle #1:  2007 Dodge Nitro

Driver #2:  James E Johnson, age 33, from Aberdeen, SD (not injured)

Vehicle #2:  Burlington Northern Santa Fe Train

Description: Vehicle one was southbound on 397th Avenue. Vehicle two was westbound.  Vehicle #2 collided with Vehicle #1 on the driver's side.  The passenger of Vehicle #1, Shelby Linder, died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.
