Gov. Daugaard To Appoint Blake Curd To District 12 Senate Seat
PIERRE, S.D. – Gov. Dennis Daugaard announced today that he will appoint Dr. Blake Curd of Sioux Falls to the South Dakota State Senate. Curd, a former state lawmaker, will represent District 12, filling the vacancy created by the resignation of Sen. Mark Johnston.
“As a veteran and a physician, Blake Curd has great intelligence and ability, and a commitment to public service,” said the Governor. “As a former legislator, he can hit the ground running in the Senate on behalf of District 12 and our state.”
Curd, 45, represented District 12 in the state House of Representatives from 2009-11. In 2010, he was a candidate for the Republican nomination for U.S. House of Representatives. Curd is an orthopedic surgeon and is president of Orthopedic Institute in Sioux Falls.
“I am honored to be asked by Gov. Daugaard to serve the people of District 12 as their senator,” said Curd. “I am prepared to get to work with the Governor and my new colleagues in the Legislature to ensure that District 12 and South Dakota continue to be a tremendous place to live, work and raise a family.”
Curd is a veteran of the United States Air Force and has worked as an associate professor at the USD Sanford School of Medicine. He and his wife, Debbie, have three children and attend Celebrate Church in Sioux Falls.
