PIERRE The South Dakota State Historical Society has announced that the Salem Church Parsonage at 206 S. High St. in Menno was recently listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The Salem Church Parsonage was built in 1913-14, with a significant addition made to the rear of the house in 2000. The house was listed for its Late Victorian Queen Anne style of architecture, according to Jay D. Vogt, director of the State Historic Preservation Office of the State Historical Society, which processes applications for the National Register.
The National Register, administered by the National Park Service, is the federal governments official list of historic properties worthy of preservation.
"Listing in the National Register provides recognition and assists in preserving our nations heritage," said Vogt. "It does not mean that limitations will be placed on the properties by the federal government."
