Former Oglala Lakota Tribal Chief Dies

PIERRE, S.D. – The last recognized Oglala Lakota Tribal Civil Chief Oliver Red Cloud of Pine Ridge Reservation died Thursday, July 4.

Chief Red Cloud, 93, was a descendant of the well-known Lakota Chief Red Cloud and served as chief starting in 1977.

Gov. Dennis Daugaard has ordered flags lowered to half-staff at the Capitol and at state offices on the Pine Ridge Reservation on the day of Red Cloud’s funeral, Saturday, July 13.
