Concealed Weapons Permit Reciprocity with Maine and Virginia

PIERRE—Secretary of State Chris Nelson announced today that Maine and Virginia have been added to South Dakota’s reciprocity agreements for concealed weapon permit holders from other states.

 

The State of South Dakota and Maine will honor each other’s concealed weapons permits.

 

The State of South Dakota and Virginia will honor each other’s concealed weapons permits. The State of Virginia will only recognize South Dakota permits issued to individuals that are at least twenty-one years of age.

 

South Dakota has reciprocity agreements with the following 25 states:  Alabama, Alaska*, Arizona, Colorado*, Florida*, Georgia*, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky*, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan*, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, North Carolina*, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee*, Texas, Utah*, Virginia*, West Virginia* and Wyoming*. The asterisk (*) denotes the states that recognize only the South Dakota permits issued to individuals that are at least twenty-one years of age.
