South Dakota Highway Patrol Announces 70th Recruit Academy Graduating Class

Pierre, SD – Friday, June 21, 2024 Eight South Dakota Highway Patrol troopers officially graduated this morning during a ceremony in the Capitol Rotunda.

Opening remarks were presented by Colonel Casey Collins, SD Highway Patrol: “Today is a day to celebrate your remarkable achievements. The dedication, hard work, and sacrifices you’ve made during your training have earned you the privilege of wearing the state trooper uniform,” said Col. Collins, superintendent of the state Highway Patrol. “As state troopers, you serve with distinction, safeguarding our citizens and visitors by promoting public safety through education, enforcement, and leading by example. I am confident your training has prepared you well for the challenges ahead.”

Chief Justice Steven R. Jensen was the keynote speaker and congratulated the graduates on their accomplishment. ““The career path that each of you have chosen in law enforcement is a good and honorable profession,” the Chief Justice said. “You have a tremendous opportunity to make a difference as you protect and serve in your local communities across South Dakota.

 Class 70 graduates and their duty stations are:

  • Gregory Brooks, HP 121 – Sisseton;
  • Brandon Cabney, HP 72 – Beresford;
  • Josemar De Barros, HP 92 – Beresford;
  • Robert Dooley, HP 123 – Vermillion;
  • Katelyn Jarding, HP 126 – Madison;
  • Tanner Stadum, HP 136 – Kadoka;
  • Alex Taylor-Kenzy, HP 130 – Rapid City; and
  • Kenneth Wientjes, HP 102 Mobridge.

 

The Highway Patrol is an agency of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
