Division of Motor Vehicles Launches “SDcars” Website
(PIERRE, SD) – People wanting to know more about the new license plate with owner system which goes into effect July 1, 2008 need only to go as far as their computer, with the recent launch of the South Dakota Department of Revenue & Regulation, Division of Motor Vehicles’ “SDcars” website.
By logging on to www.SDcars.org, the public can learn what type of vehicles the new plate with owner system will affect (everything except boats, snowmobiles, historically plated vehicles, construction plated vehicles, and trailer ID plates); what additional duties they will have as vehicle owners when they buy or sell a vehicle; and how the new SDcars (South Dakota Customized Automated Registration System) computer system will make vehicle titling and registration more efficient.
Division of Motor Vehicles Director Debra Hillmer says it’s important for South Dakota vehicle owners to be aware of the changeover and how it will affect them before the July 1, 2008 implementation date arrives.
“Changing from the current license plate with vehicle system to the new license plate with owner system is a huge step that’s been years in the making. We want our vehicle owners to be as informed as possible about what’s going on so by the time July 1 gets here, they are as ready for the new system as we are,” Hillmer said.
The website also has a brochure available for downloading that explains the features of the new system, and a poster that local government offices and businesses can download for posting in their place of business. Hillmer says additional information will be added to the website in the coming months and she encourages people to log on regularly for updates.
Information on the new plate with owner system can also be obtained by contacting your local county treasurer or the Division of Motor Vehicles at 605.773.3541.
