Fort Pierre Intersection Project Advances to Phase 2
PIERRE, SD – Starting Wednesday motorists driving between Pierre and Fort Pierre will see a change in traffic flow as a result of the work being done on the intersection of US Highway 83 and US Highway 14/SD Highway 34.
The Department of Transportation and Morris, Inc. announced that work on Phase 1 of this project is nearing completion and Phase 2 is just around the corner. Phase 1 included the construction of Yellowstone Street and completion of the Service Road to the point of being able to maintain traffic. Curb and gutter work will be in progress on these two roads during Phase 2.
When Phase 2 starts the big change for motorists will be a change to two lane head-to-head traffic. Through the duration of Phase 2 traffic heading west on Highway 14/34 will be routed on a detour along Stanley Road and Sale Barn Road. Over-width vehicles will be detoured across the Oahe Dam beginning this week until the end of the project.
The speed limit through the entire project will be posted at 25 miles per hour beginning Tuesday and will be enforced until the completion of the project.
For more information on the project, interested parties are invited to attend weekly meetings held every Thursday at 9:00 a.m. at the Pizza Ranch. Department of Transportation and Morris, Inc. staff will be on hand to answer questions and address concerns. DOT is also maintaining a web site for this project at http://www.sddot.com/ftpierre/index.asp.
