Economic Development Board Approves Two Loans at Monthly Meeting

PIERRE, S.D. - The Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) Board of Economic Development approved two loans at this month’s meeting.

Smack Holdings USA, LLC, operating as Smack Pet Food, a Canadian manufacturer of premium raw dehydrated pet food, will establish its first U.S. location in Aberdeen, S.D. The company received approval for a $1 million REDI (Rural Economic Development Initiative) loan and a $1.5 million SD Works loan.

The funds will support the renovation of the former Banner Engineering building, which is expected to create about 158 full-time jobs and have a significant economic impact on the state.

"I am proud of our team at the Governor's Office of Economic Development for partnering with Smack Pet Food to bring their new location to Aberdeen," said GOED Commissioner Joe Fiala. "South Dakota offers an ideal environment for their business to thrive, and we look forward to witnessing their continued growth."
