Names Released in Pennington County Vehicle/Pedestrian Fatal Crash

 

What:    Vehicle/Pedestrian fatal crash

Where:  U.S. Highway 1416 and South Gate Road, Box Elder, S.D.

When:   10:25 p.m., Saturday, September 9, 2023

 

Driver: Jake Rinder, 27, Rapid City, S.D., Minor injuries

Vehicle: 2009 Ford Fusion

 

Pedestrian: Ivan Reddest Jr., 24, Kyle, S.D., Fatal injuries

 

 

Pennington County, S.D.- A Kyle, S.D. man has been identified as the person who died Saturday night in a vehicle/pedestrian crash in Box Elder, S.D.

 

Preliminary crash information indicates a 2009 Ford Fusion driven by a 27-year-old male was traveling eastbound in the left lane on US Hwy 1416.  A 24-year-old male walked out of the median and into the eastbound left lane of Hwy 1416.  The Fusion struck the pedestrian. 

 

The driver of the 2009 Ford Fusion, 27-year-old Jake Rinder, sustained minor injuries.

He was wearing a seatbelt.

 

The pedestrian, 24-year-old Ivan Reddest Jr., was taken to Monument Heath Rapid City but had sustained fatal injuries.

 

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.

 

The Highway Patrol is an agency of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
