Ribbon Cutting Planned for US 83 Expressway

PIERRE, SD – The South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) and the Pierre Area Chamber of Commerce will hold a joint ribbon cutting of the US 83 Expressway south of Ft. Pierre at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 29, 2005. The event will be held approximately nine miles north of I-90 in the northbound lane of US 83. 

The SDDOT is providing transportation to the ribbon cutting site. Anyone interested in attending should meet at the Pierre Chamber of Commerce at 10:00 a.m. After the ribbon cutting, the Vivian Community Club will host refreshments at the Vivian Restaurant and Lounge. The bus will return to Pierre by noon.

The ribbon cutting marks the opening of all four lanes of the expressway. A small amount of shoulder work will be finished in October. Crews will return in the spring to lay the final lift of asphalt. The total cost of the US83 project is $32 million.
