Pierre, S.D. - A state prison inmate has died.

Edward McDowell, age 57, died of apparent natural causes September 6^th at a Sioux Falls hospital.

At the time of his death, McDowell was serving a life sentence out of Lincoln County for first-degree murder.

An autopsy will be conducted. The Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating the death, as is standard procedure in the death of an inmate.
