Gov. Daugaard Appoints Jane Wipf Pfeifle As Seventh Circuit Judge
PIERRE, S.D. – Gov. Dennis Daugaard today announced that he will appoint Jane Wipf Pfeifle (FY’-flee) of Rapid City as a circuit court judge in South Dakota’s Seventh Circuit Court.
“I thank Jane Pfeifle for accepting this appointment,” said Gov. Daugaard. “She is well-regarded as a thoughtful and hard-working attorney and will be a strong addition to the Seventh Circuit bench.”
Pfeifle will fill the vacancy created last year when the Governor appointed Judge Janine Kern to the South Dakota Supreme Court. The Seventh Circuit includes Custer, Fall River, Pennington and Shannon counties.
“I’m honored and humbled by the faith placed in me by the Governor. I look forward to joining the Seventh Circuit Court,” said Pfeifle.
Pfeifle is a shareholder of Lynn, Jackson, Shultz & Lebrun, a law firm she joined in 1986. Her practice focuses primarily on employment law, education law and civil litigation. Pfeifle served from 1998 to 2005 as an associate justice of the Oglala Sioux Nation Supreme Court. She has been active in the South Dakota and Sicanju Oyate Bar Associations. She was named to Best Lawyers in America in 2009.
Pfeifle is a native of Wagner, South Dakota. She is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of South Dakota and is a graduate of the USD School of Law, where she was an editor of the South Dakota Law Review. After law school, Pfeifle worked as law clerk for Hon. John B. Jones in federal district court, before joining Lynn Jackson.
She has been active in community organizations, including the Rapid City Public School Foundation, Lutherans Outdoors, and Destination Imagination and involved as well in a variety of school activities.
Pfeifle is married to Hon. Craig A. Pfeifle, who is also a circuit judge in the Seventh Circuit. The Pfeifles have four children and twin granddaughters.
