Driver 1: 59-year-old male from Frederick, Colorado, fatal injuries
Vehicle 1: 2020 Harley Davidson Street Glide

Helmet Used: No

Passenger 1: 54-year-old female from Frederick, Colorado, fatal injuries

Helmet Used: No

Driver 2: 15-year-old female from Sturgis, South Dakota, no injuries
Vehicle 2: 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Seat Belt Used: Yes

Passenger 2a: 67-year-old male from Lead, South Dakota, minor injuries

Seat Belt Used: Under Investigation

Passenger 2b: 59-year-old female from Lead, South Dakota, no injuries



Lawrence County, S.D.-
Two people from Colorado died Thursday in a two-vehicle crash near Deadwood, South Dakota.

Names of the those involved have not been released pending notification of family members.

Preliminary crash information indicates the driver of a 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling westbound on U.S. Highway 14A near mile marker 47. At the same time, the driver of a 2020 Harley Davidson Street Glide was traveling east and failed to negotiate a turn. The Harley Davidson crossed into the westbound lanes and collided with the Jeep. Both the driver and passenger of the Harley Davidson sustained fatal injuries. One of the Jeep’s passengers sustained minor injuries.

U.S. Highway 14A was closed for approximately three hours.

The investigation is ongoing. All information released is preliminary.

The Highway Patrol is an agency of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
