Movie Theaters Offer WWII Memorial Info With Pearl Harbor

(Pierre) -- Movie theaters in Armour, Brookings, Dell Rapids, Huron, Mitchell, Pierre, Watertown, and Winner are offering information about the state World War II Memorial in conjunction with the showing of the movie Pearl Harbor

Informative slides about the memorial will be shown during movie previews and brochures will be available in the theater lobbies through the showing of Pearl Harbor at the theaters. 

Participating theaters are: Lorrain Theater in Armour, Showcase Cinema 5 in Brookings.Dells Theater in Dell Rapids, Huron Cinema 3, Roxy Cinema 4 in Mitchell, State 123 in Pierre, Cinema 5 in Watertown, and Pix Theater in Winner.

These theaters were the first to respond to a written invitation from the Governor's Office to theaters in the state to provide information on the memorial to theatergoers in conjunction with the showing of Pearl Harbor. The materials are available to the theaters in the future as the movie reaches their screens.

Pearl Harbor opens this Friday, May 25.

Gov. Bill Janklow is leading the effort to construct a new WWII memorial on the state Capitol grounds to honor the 68,000 heroic South Dakota men and women who served in the armed forces during the war and the contributions by all South Dakotans to the war victory. The memorial is being constructed through private contributions.

The memorial, entitled South Dakota World War II Warriors, will feature six bronze soldiers in battle gear saluting the American flag. The bronzes will be standing on a suspended granite platform over the water in Capitol Lake.

The memorial will be dedicated in Pierre on Saturday, September 15 with a Heroes Parade at 11:00 a.m. (CT) and a formal dedication ceremony at 2:00 p.m. (CT).
