PIERRE, S.D. – Canova has been awarded $301,275 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding to improve its wastewater storage system, Gov. Dennis Daugaard announced today.

The project involves adding a three-acre treatment basin to the current 2.9 acre stabilization pond.

“Improvements to Canova’s wastewater storage system are necessary for the community to properly treat sewage,” Gov. Daugaard said. “This is an excellent use of Community Development Block Grant funds.”

The project, which has a total cost of $593,775, will bring the wastewater storage system into regulatory compliance.

CDBG is a reimbursement program, and Canova will receive the funds as work is completed. The program provides communities with financial resources to address a wide range of unique community development needs.

Past grants have been used for improvements and construction of community buildings, medical facilities, water systems, and sewer systems.

The federal Department of Housing and Urban Development funds the CDBG Program, and the Governor’s Office of Economic Development administers it.
