Terex Bid-Well Opens New Manufacturing Plant in Canton
CANTON, SD—The Terex Corporation’s Bid-Well concrete paving equipment business, an industry leader in the development and manufacture of versatile and specialized concrete paving machines, has officially opened a new 80,000 square foot, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Canton. The grand opening was marked with a ribboncutting ceremony attended by local, state and corporate guests including Terex Corporation Chairman and CEO Ron DeFeo.
The $5 million project, constructed on an eight–acre site in the new Canton Industrial Park, replaces three older buildings in Canton—all of which have been sold to other growing businesses bringing new jobs to Canton. Terex Bid-Well has been located in Canton since its founding in 1961, and is proud to continue to be a major employer in Canton, according to Terex Bid-Well’s General Manager, Rob Drew.
“Our decision to grow Terex Bid-Well here in Canton is a reflection of our history,” Drew said. “Some of our team members have been with us for over 40 years—and now we have the opportunity to add new team members with our expanded, 21st century manufacturing space. We expect to grow our business by 10% in 2012.”
Terex Bid-Well has long been an industry leader in concrete paving equipment with a product line that includes bridge deck pavers and overlay machines, road and airport pavers, texturing/curing machines, work bridges and specialized pavers and graders for slope and canal paving.
“The Terex Corporation is a major South Dakota employer, with hundreds of workers in Huron, Watertown and, of course, Terex Bid-Well in Canton,” said Governor Daugaard. “I’m pleased that this international company has chosen to invest in our state’s future by growing in South Dakota.”
The Canton plant is the only new Terex facility built in North America this year, Drew said, illustrating the corporation’s confidence in Terex Bid-Well’s growth. The new manufacturing plant was designed for an efficient flow of materials and increased productivity, with 85% of the building made from recycled materials.
“I am very pleased with the timely completion of our new location and the outstanding support of the local leadership,” said George Ellis, President of Terex Construction Division. “The cooperation from the City, County and State has been remarkable. The Governor’s and the State of South Dakota leadership in partnering with business is one key reason why we built the new plant in Canton.”
The City of Canton, the Canton Economic Development Corporation, Lincoln County, the Lincoln County Economic Development Association and the Governor’s Office of Economic Development worked with Terex Bid-Well on the expansion project.
“I would like to add my thanks to Governor Daugaard and all associated officials for their support of our new state-of-the-art Canton facility,” said Terex Corporation Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Ron DeFeo. “We are pleased to continue to provide our customers throughout the world with products and services from our long-standing South Dakota location, and look forward to many fruitful years ahead, both for Canton and for Terex.”
