Sioux Falls, SD – The South Dakota Department of Veterans Affairs (SDDVA) will host a Fallen Hero Bridge Dedication to honor U.S. Army Sergeant Richard T. Heimes.
The ceremony will be on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. (CT) at VFW Post 791 (209 Cedar Street) in Yankton.
This dedication is part of a statewide initiative established during the Noem-Rhoden Administration and expanded under Governor Rhoden. In partnership with the South Dakota Departments of Veterans Affairs, Military, and Transportation, the program establishes enduring tributes that honor service and serve as a lasting reminder to future generations.
The SD HWY 50 bridge over Marne Creek, west of Yankton, will be dedicated as the SGT Richard T. Heimes bridge.
SGT Heimes served with honor and distinction, and this dedication will ensure their legacy continues to inspire all who travel this roadway. SDDVA invites the public to attend and recognize this hero’s sacrifice and service to our nation.
