Elk Point Community Event Scheduled
RAPID CITY – Elk Point area residents are encouraged to attend the South Dakota National Guard’s 727th Transportation Company community open house from 1-4 p.m., Saturday, April 13th at the Readiness Center located at 205 Main Street.
A formal program begins at 1 p.m., featuring speakers Governor Bill Janklow, U.S. Representative John Thune and South Dakota National Guard Adjutant General, Phil Killey. Guard members will be on hand demonstrating the latest guard equipment. The afternoon will culminate with a meal prepared by the unit food service section.
The 727th is one of the South Dakota National Guard’s newest units. Past missions include support of relief efforts during the 2001 flood in Watertown, personnel and equipment support during the World War II Memorial Dedication in Pierre, and the Lewis and Clark re-enactment in Elk Point.
