State prison inmates make, donate winter clothing for needy
(Pierre, S.D.)- Items handmade by state prison inmates were distributed this week to various service organizations in the Sioux Falls area.
South Dakota State Penitentiary staff members delivered more than 15-hundred stocking caps, 700 pairs of mittens and assorted toys to The Banquet, Special Olympics, Children’s Inn, Child Protection Services, South Dakota Highway Patrol, Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Department and Sioux Falls Police Department. The caps and mittens are then given to those in need.
Inmates hand-knit the stocking caps and mittens from donated yarn. They also make wooden toy cars and puzzles from scrap lumber in the Pheasantland Industry shops.
