Update: Road Closures / Openings

YANKTON, SD – The South Dakota Department of Transportation has closed the following highways until further notice due to flooding:

  • SD Hwy. 48 at the Iowa State Line remains closed from mile marker 383 to 384.23.

  • SD 50 at the Iowa line is closed from mile marker 425 to 426.4 due to flooding on the Iowa side.

  • SD 19 is closed south of Centerville from mile marker 21 to 23 due to flooding from the Vermillion River.

The following highway has been re-opened:

  • SD 46 near the Iowa State line is open, the flood waters have receded.

Motorists are asked to use alternate routes when possible, keeping in mind many county and township roads are closed due to flooding.

Motorists are urged to use caution when approaching sections where water is flowing adjacent to or over a road. Do not attempt to drive through water covering the road as it may be washed out underneath. Turn around. Don’t risk drowning.
