LAKE POINSETT GIVEN 300-FT NO WAKE ZONE
PIERRE – Lake Poinsett in northeast South Dakota has had a no-wake boating restriction placed on it as a result of flood conditions.
High water has been causing damage to homeowners who have property around the lake shoreline. To help alleviate some of the damage, Game, Fish and Parks Secretary John Cooper signed an executive declaration, which prohibits boats from operating at speeds that might cause a wake within 300 feet of the shoreline.
Signs will be placed at points around the lake reminding boaters to operate their vessels at no-wake speed until they are at least 300 feet from shore. Violation of this restriction is considered a Class 2 misdemeanor. The restriction will be in place until the flood conditions subside.
