(Pierre) - Results of an independent review of the inmate classification and cell assignment procedures at the South Dakota State Penitentiary were released to the state Corrections Commission today.

The review was conducted by Charles J. Kehoe, president of the American Correctional Association, and David Sandahl at the request of the South Dakota Department of Corrections and Governor William J. Janklow following the death of two inmates at the South Dakota State Penitentiary earlier this year.

Kehoe and Sandahl reviewed incident reports, disciplinary reports and departmental policies and procedures on inmate classification, special management housing, use of force and cell assignments.
