Webster awarded grants for wastewater treatment facility

PIERRE – Webster will soon be making upgrades to its wastewater treatment facility with the help of a $515,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), Gov. Mike Rounds announced today.

“In order to comply with state standards that prohibit discharge from wastewater treatment facilities, Webster must expand its system,” Gov. Rounds said. “To meet that requirement, an additional 90 acres of surface water area must be added to the facility.”

The expansion will require an additional 275 acres of property, but the actual amount of land that must be purchased will be determined in the design process. Plans are under way to construct a 16-acre stabilization pond and 75 acres of artificial wetland basins. A new pumping station and force main are also included in the plans.

“The CDBG program was designed for vital projects like this,” Gov. Rounds said. “We are glad to assist the city of Webster in making their community a cleaner and safer place.”

The CDBG program provides communities with resources to address a wide range of unique community development needs. Past grants have been used to improve or construct community buildings, fire halls, water systems, and sewer systems.
