Hearings Scheduled For Tribal Gaming Compact
PIERRE, S.D. – Two public hearings will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012, on a proposed gaming compact between the State of South Dakota and the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate.
The first hearing on that date is scheduled for 9 a.m. CDT in the Circuit Courtroom of the Roberts County Courthouse in Sisseton; the second hearing will be held at 2 p.m. in the Whitewood Room of the Watertown Event Center, 1901 9th Avenue SW in Watertown.
Copies of the proposed gaming compact may be viewed by the public at the:
- Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Tribal Chairman’s Office in Agency Village
- Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Tribal Gaming Commission Office, second floor, Post Office building, in Sisseton
- Watertown Regional Library
The proposal may also be viewed on the South Dakota State Commission on Gaming website at www.gaming.sd.gov and the website of the South Dakota Department of Tribal Relations at www.sdtribalrelations.com
The Oct. 24 public hearings are required by a state law that says the Governor or his designee must hold one or more public hearings in affected areas before the State may enter into a compact with an American Indian tribe on Class III gaming allowed by the Federal Indian Gaming Regulatory
Act.
Larry Eliason, executive secretary of the South Dakota Commission on Gaming, and Jim Seward, general counsel to Gov. Dennis Daugaard, will act as the Governor’s designees and conduct the public hearings at Sisseton and Watertown.
People who are unable to attend the public hearings on Oct. 24, 2012, may provide written comments to:
